The first time I tried pastel was in San Fransisco down at the Fort Mason Center. There was a new restaurant named Greens and was one of the 1st vegan style places I had visited in that city. I got to learn how to use pastels and loved trying out different paper. I feel pastel is preferable to use standing up, taping the paper vertically on a board on an easel for the chalk drops as you work. I am sitting these days due to the heat here and not really a proper way to set up a studio for professional work, however, I am doing my best to entertain myself with some art every day, a little here, a little there, along with reading some great books and exploring new kitchen creativity.
Pastel intrigued me as a girl due to Degas and his beautiful gentle ballerina art. I love the softness it can portray and of course, I love texture. I see myself working on some basic flower paintings of India and with my way of bold bright interpretations, maybe I can make some future postcards and stationary out of this set of 6-8 pieces I have in my head. Both photography and art along with vibrant colour in my diet with all the luscious fruits here to enjoy make my days uplifting and bright as can be!

KNOW THYSELF
Discovered a fab health food store here in Pondicherry thank goodness! It is obvious to me I am not going anywhere as to flying "somewhere else" right now and frankly, it's pretty much the same everywhere. Confusion, masks, social distancing, totally different views etc. With so many ideas changing left right and center I find I need some mental stability. I know what I think about the situation worldwide and learning even more as days pass however I must follow the rules of where I am, being a single Caucasian woman in India, so it is not the time to rebel. I've made the decision to call Pondicherry my home during this time. I may be here the rest of the summer for all I know so revising the kitchen to be a workable space with a blender, high vibe condiments and snacks, proper coffee grinder and French Press, a cutting board and some good knives...some fresh tea towels and sponges...YES! Let's get the "Margi" spin on this place!
I am thrilled to of found so many fab superfoods for my smoothies and will learn more about activated charcoal and hemp seeds too. I am familiar with most of the rest.
I do think the beach boardwalk here will open soon and that is a nice place to stroll and meet others that live here and that is all that is left in this part of India, I am a very unusual oddity. There may be some folks out at Auroville, the new age community 15 min or so away by car but they keep to them selves most of the time. Most foreigners in this part of South India went home on repatriation flights of which I am glad to of stayed even now. I have a safe magic little bubble here with a nice pad, beachside walks soon and decent kind locals.

Creativity is a must during these times of uncertainty "Lockdown 2020". I know that creating an upbeat planned routine helps me get through days in positive ways. Here in South India (Pondicherry) I have the opportunity to go for morning runs and also some of the shops are open now. I found an art shop and bought some pastels and also found some running shoes. It can take some effort getting started with projects sometimes, for me, I need to be active and have some kind of creative project to stay healthy in mind, body and spirit. Having good reading material is a must too. Some of us have been able to go back to work and/or move their business to an online platform. This is something I have with my Fine Art America site in which I have been putting more effort into and learning about E-Book creations. Although nothing is selling at the moment, it is a good time to build some new foundations.
Travel has been blocked in my life for now so in order to utilize the time well I've had some re-connecting with people through some nice long emails or phone calls which has been nice. Having friends/family all over the world I am getting a pretty well rounded view of what is going on and how people feel and it is a hard time for most. Signing petitions, acting out or meditating, going within; these are all ways to deal with this crisis that is affecting most everyone in the active integrated world.
Let us give ourselves kindness and positive choices during these times and share ourselves with others the best we can.
"This too shall pass."
