Mutual Attraction
Funny how the title of this painting, a favored one I saw today, is "Mutual Attraction" (Abdul Aziz; oil on canvas, 1974, 1975), the way I have felt in Ubud! It has been one of those places that I arrived, felt, learned, gave and now am leaving with a piece of magic. Today I had a "tourist" day and did some things like going to one of the main museums here called Neka Art Museum. Even though all of Bali is like a botanical garden and the temples like museums, it is still nice to pay respects to some of the properly recognised museums that show such rich culture. I recommend the Neka to anyone wanting to learn more about the variety of Balinese art and culture!
"The Neka Art Museum, previously known as the Neka Museum, is unique because its collection of foreign artworks by Balinese, other Indonesian, and foreign artists all were inspired by the natural beauty, life, and culture of Bali. The high quality of the Neka Art Museum's collection serves as a source of inspiration, information, research, and education for many people in Indonesia and from abroad. In this way, future generations of artists, especially in Bali, can benefit from it and develop their place in the national and global communities, while visitors gain a better understanding and appreciation of Balinese art and culture. The Neka Art Museum now is recognized as an institute of international standing." -Suteja Neka, founder and director Neka Art Museum, Ubud, Bali.
