A solo exhibition of 21 various fruits, flowers & spices of S.E. Asia is now up with an emphasis on Bali in a wonderful gallery space called Paradiso! There are 6 originals and 15 prints. The prints are printed on thick rough watercolour paper so unless you get up close and personal, one can't tell the difference. I am pleased to be able to share some of the new pieces I have worked on over the last few years plus some prints from both my travels and Texas homeland. The Aloe Vera and Agave are to be found here in S.E. Asia as in Texas and I've included some spices like Vanilla & Cacao. There will be a few with Buddhist & Hindi representations and a small bio with my website for access to more information to the actual medicinal value of these plants. There are a few a booklets that are scattered around for people to thumb through while sitting having their coffee and/or waiting for an event with some info about each painting; maybe one in-particular will catch their attention and it will be nice to actually get to read a bit about it.
Paradiso is a Cultural Community Center in the heart of my little village here in Ubud Bali that I reside in at this time. It offers organic plant-based food, cold pressed juices & smoothies, dance events, cinema, film festivals and food festivals at times too. There are onstage events with speakers and educational lectures scattered throughout the year. There is a beautiful boutique full of the latest new age wear, eco friendly products and health food store cosmetics/lotions/potions and more. It is a joy to enter and see friends, have a tea or coffee, or some delicious vegan treats. Now, one can also enjoy viewing some of my "Bali-Specific" creations too. I am pleased and proud to have my works showing at Paradiso for the rest of Spring and on into the Summer.

"It's a blank sheet, the best kind, I get to twirl around, in my mind!"
Today I picked up a lovely new heavy wooden table for my creation space here in Ubud Bali, excited to begin my next work, the Pink Magnolia. I have had a chore here in Bali trying to be all romantic with the outdoor painting idea, on my balcony, overlooking the pool and the jungle but you know what?! Bollocks! It is so hot and muggy I get way too tired and enjoy just listening to the birds and hearing the wind through the trees. With my new table indoors in the line of my aircon, I can get some real work done and then relax outside, on the balcony or by the pool. This is balance, this is joy! I am so happy with my indoor workspace, I always can put brush to paper when it calls me and not have to wait for the sun to get out of my eyes or go down or rise or whatever. I can just turn on the light with no dirt to get rid of and work properly. I find I am more productive in the cooler air and feel light and easy. I begin tomorrow!

While studying about the Pink Magnolia, Magnolia x soulangeana, for my next work, I discovered it is a hybrid of two very regal magnolia's, the Magnolia denudata and the Magnolia liliiflora. The Magnolia denudata has been cultivated in Chinese Buddhist temple gardens since 600 AD with the flower's representing purity. The Magnolia liliiflora has also been cultivated in China but has been further refined in Japan. Both these original magnolias and the hybrid soulangeana have won the RHS (Royal Horticulture Society) award within the Garden of Merit.
It is fitting I have chosen to represent this flower with my soft pinks and gentle whites during this time of my own, an inner peace. It is the 1st of my new works since coming back to Bali and I feel I am in a good mental space to allow the curves, colours and flow of the petals to come alive on paper here in my little Ubudian Studio with the frogs at night, the birds in the morning, the temple bells in the distance and summer sun most days.
Magnolia's also remind me of my childhood, California summers and magical finds in the grass when the soft buds have dropped from the trees. This piece will be detailed but mostly the petals of the flowers will fill the page. How wonderful to be back in my Bali home for the 2021 Springtime to bloom!
