Masking Fluid for Stamens; Guavasteen

For my Guavasteen, I'm using a fine line masking fluid to protect the white of the paper while I paint behind the detail for now.  Later, when thoroughly dry, I erase the masking fluid (it is like rubber cement) and then can paint a lighter colour on the white paper and/or leave it white where needed.  I don't really prefer this technique over just going in, out and around small areas but it can be useful with some compositions.  I have  6 weeks to paint 3 paintings to have some originals hanging at an expo I am having in Bali, fortunately and unfortunately, the few I had to show sold so must create more.  The expo will have 25 prints hanging along with whatever other originals I can create before September, show being October and need to use September to create medicinal plant write-ups along with the magic & myth of each painting.

Pineapple Guava; Guavasteen!

I just love it when I discover something new in the plant kingdom!  I was planning on painting the Guava next with fruit and flower and came upon this gorgeous flower that is edible called Acca and the fruit is called Feijoa but also called Pineapple Guava and/or Guavasteen.  Since I just finished a few months ago the Mangosteen and this flower is so beautiful, I cannot resit painting it next.  It grows in South America and New Zealand, likes the tropics but it does need a chilled winter to stimulate fruit production so sadly I won't find this in Bali, however, I do plan to go to Peru and Bolivia in a few years if not even earlier so I'll go ahead and paint it for some pre-thoughts on S. American journy's and to enjoy the idea of going to New Zealand!  I always plan ahead but can do a 180 last minute, hey, that's life!
